Season 5 Championship Match Preview: Bryan Lue vs. Peter Wong

Bryan "Blue" Lue vs. Peter "Godfather of SF" Wong

It's a tale of two different seasons for competitors Blue and Peter Wong. Blue has posted a dominant Swiss record, only dropping 3 games through the season. With 3 Top 8 appearances total and one Trial win to his name, he clinches the 5th seed, but is edged out for a first round bye. On the other hand, Peter actually has a losing Swiss record and one Top 8 appearance. He squeaks into the Championship as the 12th and final qualified player.

Blue has always tried to find decks that work for him best and only play that deck to mastery level. He experimented with Mono Lightning, but after a poor performance, he found a home in Mono Water. Once Opus 8 dropped, he saw the power of new Dark Legend, Veritas of the Dark, and built an Earth/Water deck that focuses on it. He has only dropped 1 game in Swiss while piloting this deck.

Peter loves to brew his own decks and has a tendency to play decks that feature his favorite Ice element. He and the SF crowd love to play aggressively by racking up early damage and then closing it out with their beloved Mecha Chocobo and backup Zemus combo. Peter favors evasion, unblockables, and discard as his weapons of choice. His decks will always have cards that are tough to deal with. He recently picked up Mono Fire at the last Trial and saw success with it, as he appeared in his only Top 8 of the season with the aggressive deck.

Blue has his sights set beyond the local level. He believes he's ready for the World stage. After missing out on Worlds last year by one or two decision points, this is his time for redemption. Blue is the reigning Circuit Champion and he needs to show that he can defend his title locally before he is ready to duke it out at Nationals and beyond. Peter is known as the "Godfather of SF" and the biggest party animal in all of FFTCG. However, he and the SF crowd have recently gotten more serious and have been training weekly in order to make a push towards winning Crystal Cups and making it to Nationals together. He and other players from the SF area have made great strides in performance ever since. Peter will face a huge challenge against Blue, who was a Top 8 at the SoCal Crystal Cup and Top 16 at Nationals. Beating Blue will validate all the hard work thus far and could prove that Peter is ready for Crystal Cups and Nationals. While both players have bigger goals and look beyond the Circuit, they must first prove that they can win in their local areas. The first step starts here.

Who will win? Who's your pick? Is this the first leg of the journey for a future World Champion? Will one of these players win it all? Come and find out! A Circuit has been reborn, a Champion will be crowned, and a Legend will rise.
