Trials of the Zodiac Braves: Trial 2 - Shemhazai
Another event has come and gone and Trial 2 is in the books. This second event was held at Anime Imports, and even though we were missing some of our regular players, we had a grand total of 21 participants--the most we have seen in a while, and we were thrilled!
Very first time being hosted by Anime Imports in Pacifica, CA. Thank you! |
A peek at Round 3 pairings |
We saw a wide variety of decks at this event: Mono Water, Mono Earth, Earth/Wind, Mono Ice, Fire, Ice/Fire, Earth/Fire...too many to name! With this many people, we were able to do 5 rounds of Swiss before cutting to top 8. Meanwhile, those who didn't make it were able to participate in an All-Star Draft Side Event, with a foil cube generously provided by our very own Jared.
All-Star Draft in progress |
Note: If you flick the cards, Jared will flick you. |
Others who couldn't partake in the Draft event found a neat board game (Splendor) to demo and pass the time with instead. And, can't forget the baked goods and sweets that fed us throughout the day--but we all know we only hungered for victory here.
Splendor was the real reason people came to Pacifica...right? |
After 5 rounds of Swiss, we had our top 8: Milo Mosquera, Jonathan Bauer, Jeff Migliore, Clarmelia Paunil, David Burgos, Benny Soo, Shawn O'Looney, and Peter Dang. Then, after a Bo3 elimination, our top 4 pairings came out to be: Jeff vs Jonathan and Peter vs Clarmelia. In the end, it came down to Jeff vs Peter, and Jeff successfully brought it home with his Earth/Wind deck, claiming 1st place by the end of the night. Congratulations to Jeff, kudos to everyone else who topped at this event, an honorable mention to Phillip for being the only one who used Shemhazai in his deck, and a huge thanks to all for coming out and supporting our first event at Anime Imports! Looking forward to more events here in the future (both for ZB and for the store's bi-weekly locals) and to seeing everyone from the SF area again soon!
After the event (which actually ended a good half hour after Anime Imports closed, so another big thank you to them for letting us finish out the tournament), the gang went out to eat at a local Italian restaurant. Nothing like good pasta and pizza to feed a big hungry crowd that starved themselves all day and only ate
Oh, and we met the Luigi of Luigi's Restaurant & Pizzeria. Night complete. |
Special thanks to Jared, for running the event and making our first time at Anime Imports a huge success!
And, here they are, cause we're sure you're all looking for them:
